Puppy Dog Training in 7 Lessons

The Dove Cresswell professional puppy and dog training lessons is an important breakthrough in dog training. He has trained puppies and dogs for film, television and commercials. He knows that they have to be trained and fast. So he will show you dog training techniques through a reliable and effective training method just how he does it. You will learn through videos and a first time offer with complete step-by-step training instructions with sound and pictures. You can also see how he uses positive dog training through sample lessons and learn just how easy it is to train your dog. Once you take a look you will believe that there is nothing else like it for helping dog owners to start training their dogs in a positive, fun way and getting immediate results. So what have you got to loose take a look and see what you think!

The 7 lessons for puppy dog training:

· Puppy house training

You will learn how to take him from a new puppy to going outside or paper training toy breeds.

· Crate training

Keep your puppy safe by putting him somewhere safe so he is not chewing up things that could hurt him. Learn the correct size to get and if plastic or metal are best.

· Dog obedience training

Learn the proper body language to teach sit, down, stay and wait.

· Walking politely on a leash: The informal heel

Teaching the proper way to walk without pulling and trying to get away from you.

· The recall

Your dog will learn to come to you the first time you call.

· Good puppy and dog manners

Teach your dog not to jump on people, leave food alone that is sitting out, no whining, barking, biting or jumping on furniture.

· Special dog tricks

Also teach them the fun shake-a-paw, wave, rollover, and speak dog tricks.

The best part is you can watch just how to do it. There is no guesswork or having to read a book. It will be like someone is there holding your hand and showing you exactly how it is done making it a positive dog training experience. For both you and your pet. Keep your training time to 15 - 25 minutes max. You don't want to over work your dog. You want to keep it fun and keep them coming back for more. That is the key you just want to have fun with your dog. That is the point and the more you teach them the more fun you will both have.

Common puppy dog training mistakes:

· Saying HEEL and snapping the leash at the same time. This confuses the dog because they relate the word heel with getting their collar snapped. They are not sure what they did to deserve that.

· Off and Down

Off means they have to get off something and down means lie down. So don't say down when they are on the couch because that will just confuse them.

· Bending over your dog or getting in their face

This will intimidate the dog and could even cause aggression. So stay away from doing these things. I hope this has opened your eyes to the different ways you can use dog training techniques to train a dog online. Go now to see puppy dog training with live teachings and find out what more you can learn.

I am a proud pet owner of three dogs. I was able to use dog training techniques to work with my dogs and teach basic obedience training with the help I got from Dove Cresswell's Dog Training Online. I found the training course very helpful. So Go Now and look at it here: [http://www.secret2dogtraining.com]

April 1, 2011 - Bark Busters Offers Tips for Creating a Dog-Friendly Backyard

Creating a Dog-Friendly Backyard

Creating a dog-friendly backyard brings many benefits such as the dog’s safety, prevention of boredom and attendant misbehaviors, exercise, and enjoyment of nature.

Remember, though, that while letting your dog have a free romp in your yard keeps him exercised, active and happy, the yard should be used only as a temporary retreat. Nothing can replace the time you spend with your furry pal to enhance your relationship and seal your special bond.

Dogs kept in a bland backyard all day are far more likely to misbehave with chewing, digging, excessive barking, pacing along the fence, or fence fighting with other dogs. Adapting your yard to make it more comfortable and appealing to your dog will go a long way toward making for a more contented, relaxed canine companion.

Poisonous Ingestibles
Dogs which are bored or hungry will be tempted to eat anything they find in your yard, including plants or flowers. Dogs can become extremely ill or even die from eating poisonous plants. Ask your vet for a list of plants to avoid. To help prevent your dog from eating plants, don’t garden with him present — otherwise he may conclude that playing with plants and digging are acceptable activities.

Mulch can also be problematic. Many types of mulch are toxic, especially cocoa bean mulch. Large-size wood mulch can harm your dog if he chews on it, creating wood splinters that could lodge in his mouth or stomach.

Don’t leave out any products meant for outdoor use where your pet can get into them. This includes lawn chemicals like fertilizers and weed killers, antifreeze, pesticides, and outdoor grilling supplies like charcoal and lighter fluid.

Chewing
Dogs chew for various reasons, such as stress, boredom, teething or diet deficiency. There are different things you can try to prevent this behavior, depending on your dog and what he is chewing. The easiest way to stop your dog from chewing is to have the item itself give the correction by applying a foul-tasting product such as Bitter Apple spray, citronella or hot chili sauce to it. However, since dogs’ tastes vary, you’ll need to experiment to see what works best.

Keep your dog entertained by providing high-quality puzzle toys that reward him with treats, such as the Buster Cube® and KONG®. Every few days, rotate what toys are available to him, so that he has something new and fun to hold his interest.

Never give your dog old shoes or clothing items to chew, as he may not distinguish between these old items and new ones. Also be aware that plastic drink bottles may inadvertently teach your dog that plastic is okay to chew, which means plastic planters, hoses and garden furniture become likely targets for his teeth.

Water
Water is always essential to your pooch, so be sure the yard includes a large water bowl filled with fresh water in all seasons.

If you choose to incorporate a water feature such as a small pond, be sure to use the kind which circulates water to help avoid mosquitoes. Still-water ponds need chemical additives to kill the larvae that will grow there, and is unhealthy for household pets.

If you have a swimming pool, consider constructing a barrier to prevent accidents. Or, teach your dog to swim and show him where to exit the pool.

Shade
While being outside can make for a happy dog, being stuck in the blazing sun is unhealthy. Create a cool spot for your pooch by scraping an indented area in a shady place where he can relax in comfort. Without such a place, your dog may create his own spot in an area not of your choosing.

Digging
Digging is a normal behavior for dogs. They dig in search of food, to investigate sounds and smells, to improve their shelter, or to escape. Digging can be triggered by boredom, separation anxiety, chasing rodents or bugs, and/or a nutritional deficiency. The reason for the digging must be determined before a possible training solution can be tried. A qualified dog behavioral therapist such as a Bark Busters trainer can help you with this tricky behavioral issue.

Scratching at Back Door
A dog will scratch at the back door because all the good, fun stuff is kept inside – including you. Give your dog a bone or scatter food (see below) when you put him outside. Whether he is outside or inside, he must know that he is always in safe territory with an abundance of food.

Scatter food appeals to a dog’s natural instinct to forage. Dogs enjoy looking for food on the ground and will literally spend hours doing so. Scatter a variety of foods -- bits of raw vegetables, dog kibble, and other foods that won’t attract wasps -- around the yard when you leave. Try hiding a few treats so your dog spends extra time looking for them.

If your dog scratches at the door and cries to come in, ignore him. Let him in only when he stops. If he begins to stress, correct him from inside the house. Do not go out.

Fences and gates
A fence helps to keep your dog safely on your property and out of harm’s way. If your yard has a traditional fence (chain link or wood), be sure all gates latch correctly each time they are closed. Check the fence for holes or other openings. If there are gaps, place bricks or large stones in front of the holes, otherwise your pet might find a way out of the yard.

Because some homeowner’s associations do not allow traditional fences, a popular alternative is the electronic or “invisible” dog fence. Choosing this type of barrier has many benefits – it keeps the landscape tidy -- as well as drawbacks -- while the fence may keep your pet in, it doesn’t keep other animals or people out.

Maintaining the Yard
Maintain the yard’s cleanliness by regularly picking up after your dog. Some dogs can be trained to use one area for toileting. While the nitrogen in dog urine can be very hard on lawns, watering the area after the dog has urinated can help to minimize damage.

Keep your dog (and anyone else) off the lawn after any yard treatments -- fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides – until the chemicals have dried completely.

Also, be careful of metal lawn edging. Metal edging invites great risk of your dog stepping on it and seriously cutting his paw.

Dog Houses
If your dog is kept outside, make sure he has shelter in which to get out of the weather. Dogs are more relaxed when they are covered and in familiar surroundings. Place the dog house next to your family’s house so that your dog feels like it is an extension of the larger “den.” Provide a blanket or other comfy bedding, and be sure he has access to fresh water.

Choose a house made of a naturally rot-resistant material such as plastic or red cedar, but do not use pressure-treated wood, which can contain arsenic. Use rust-proof galvanized nails and screws.

The house should be raised from the ground to insulate the dog from moisture and chills, and should be large enough for him to comfortably turn around but small enough to retain his body heat. In colder climates, your dog may appreciate a heated dog house, whether created by a dog house heater or a solar panel.

Training Your Dog Can Save Your Yard Too!
Training your dog correctly and regularly will keep him mentally stimulated and help to decrease his overall level of stress. Remember, you can correct your dog for digging, barking, scratching at the door, etc., only if you catch him in the act; correcting after the event is pointless.

A qualified dog behavioral therapist such as a Bark Busters trainer can help you discover the source of the reasons for your dog’s outdoor misbehaviors and can provide ways to correct the problems. Your dog and your family will be happier for it!

Golden Retriever Puppy Socialization

We do a lot with our guide dog puppies in training including working on good house manners and puppy socialization.  Today’s video is a great demonstration on both socializing your puppy with other pets in your house, in this case a cat, as well as working on teaching your puppy good house manners.

In the past we’ve enjoyed showing pictures and clips of puppies vs cats, cat vs dog, and puppy vs kitty, but it’s been a while since our last funny or entertaining piece of media…until today.  Yep, that’s right today we wanted to bring a little bit of joy into your life with a great YouTube video that’s been floating around the internet for almost five years and has received over eleven million views!  Chances are you, yourself have already seen it, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy seeing it once again.

Check out these eleven Golden Retriever puppies investigating the family cat.

I like how the puppies back off when the cat meows.  Also, another oh too cute moment is when the little Golden backs away from the cat stepping on top of his sibling lying on the floor…too cute!

There is a lesson to be learned from this adorable video.  One of the things we always try to do with our guide dog puppies in training is socialize them with different animals and a very important animal our pups should always get used to are cats.  Could you imagine if the moment a fully trained, working guide dog saw a cat he had the impulse to chase it?  That is unacceptable behavior for a guide dog (and probably for most pet dogs as well).

Unfortunately, we don’t have any cats to help train our guide dog puppies in training.  However, my parents have a very docile cat that is perfect for working with our dogs.  We make sure our puppies in training visit my parents cat and work on socialization and acceptable behavior around other animals.  The cat in the video would be a perfect candidate for working with guide dog puppy socialization.

Socialization is one of the most important parts of puppy training for not only guide dog puppies, but for regular pet dogs and pups as well.  Make sure that you have a puppy socialization plan in place before brining home your next puppy.

What do you do to work on socializing your puppy or dog?  We’d love to hear your thoughts and puppy socialization techniques you use when training your puppy.

Dog Products At The OC Pet Expo

Every year we go to the OC Pet Expo we come home with a bag full of dog products for Stetson, Linus, and this year Dublin to try out.  After last years Orange County Pet Expo besides getting good deals on little stuffed doggy toys we also came away with two doggy toys that we had been eager to try.  The first was the Amazing Treat Machine Interactive Dog Toy which we never got around to testing.  However, we plan on giving Stetson a shot at reviewing the Amazing Treat Machine and add it to his list of dog product reviews.  The other big product we bought from last years Pet Expo was Vetericyn wound and infection treatment spray.  We were hoping this spray would help with Stetson’s dog skin allergies.  Again we did not get a doggy product review posted to the web.  However, we plan on putting together a full review of Vetericyn in the coming weeks.

Vetericyn Wound & Infection Treatment - One step wound and infection treatment based on microcyn technology that works naturally with your animals immune system.

Once again we got a few plush toys that the boys will most likely shred to bits in a few minutes.  We were hoping to find some awesome new dog products at this years Orange County Pet Expo and while we did come across several items we were interested in purchasing we only came home with one NEW dog product we plan on reviewing on the website.

So what is the one product we plan on reviewing?  Lets start off with an awesome idea we had years ago:

Way back in 2005 when I took my Aussie mix Linus on a camping trip we wondered through the near pitch black forest at night me with my trusty head lamp and Linus and his black fur blended right in with the darkness.  At the time I thought wouldn’t it be cool if Linus had a fancy headlamp just like the one I was wearing, but a canine version.  After much (or maybe just a little) inner debate I assumed most dogs would be annoyed wearing a headlamp on their head just like most dogs hate wearing silly antlers or santa hats during the holidays.  So I dropped the entire idea.

Fast forward to the 2011 OC Pet Expo.  Almost directly across from our Guide Dogs of America booth was a small booth with a Golden Retriever wearing a nice little LED light around his neck.  The dog product was quite simply called the PupLight Dog Safety Light!  Very cool and because it was around his neck it didn’t bother him much…it was only like wearing an extra collar.  While we still think our canine headlamp idea is still pretty cool the PupLight is much more practical.

So stay tuned for our upcoming PupLight Dog Safety Light Review!

One final note on dog products at the Pet Expo Orange County: we were also looking to grab some antlers and saw a number of exhibitors selling both venison and deer antlers, but ended up coming away with neither.  Some of our fellow guide dog puppy raisers purchased some giant antlers that were about a foot long and two inches in diameter.  We also saw some much smaller antlers that were only about 4 inches in length and probably less than a half inch in diameter.  And finally we also saw a few that were sheered in half (we heard do not buy the antlers that are sheered in half as they don’t last nearly as long)  We weren’t too sure which would work best for Stetson’s powerful jaws so we decided a little more online research would be best.

By the way, after shopping around at the OC Pet Expo we thought we might be able to find better deals online.  However, the best deals were indeed at the Pet Expo along with the fact that you could haggle with the exhibitors, get bulk discounts, and also when the exhibitors saw Dublin in his Guide Dogs of America jacket they automatically gave us a better deal.  So next year we’re going to make sure we bring a fat wad of cash to spend on our three pups.

Did you get a chance to visit this years Orange County Pet Expo?  If so, did you find any cool dog products or watch any of the shows?

Green Puppy? Is Your Puppy Eco-Friendly?

When it comes to raising and training our puppy we make sure we do our best to raise a green puppy.  Not literally “green” of course.  We do what we can to be eco-friendly and reduce our carbon paw print.

As many of you know today is earth day so we decided it was a good idea to take a look at the things we are doing with our puppy to keep the environment healthy.

So here’s what we did:  We took a look at the things we currently do that embody raising a green puppy.  Then we thought about three things we could do in the future to help minimize our impact on the environment.

Puppies for Adoption

The puppies in the image above were up for adoption at the OC Pet Expo.  The two in front looked a lot like purebred Labrador Retrievers.  The one in the back looked a lot like a purebred Husky.  The Humane Society estimates 25 percent of dogs in the shelter are purebred.

Without further adieu…here’s today’s Earth Day list:

Things we do to raise a green puppy:

Puppy Adoption – We encourage everyone to visit your local animal shelter or rescue.  Adopting a homeless puppy/dog does not add to the current population while purchasing from a pet store or breeder encourages more breeding.  We adopted Linus, an Australian Shepherd Mix from the Carson Animal Shelter.  Take a look at Linus’ Puppy Adoption Story.Use That Dog As A Heater – In the winter Linus my Aussie Mix and Stetson my black lab make great heaters.  We rarely turn the heat on in the winter I just cuddle up next to the two dogs and they keep me warm during those cold winter nights.Buy Dog Food In Bulk – This is a no brainer for us.  We have three dogs and always buy the largest bags we can find.  It saves on our own gas and packaging waste.  If you have a smaller dog you can still buy in bulk.  Just make sure you get a nice Airtight Pet Food Container to keep your dog food from spoiling.Pickup the Poop – One of my biggest pet peeves is when people do not pickup after their dogs.  Dog poop can pollute water and spread disease.  Obviously this is bad for the environment, but on top of that I seem to always find the unscooped poop with the bottom of my shoe…grrrrrrrSpay And Neuter Your Dog – to help prevent overpopulation make it a point to spay or neuter your dog.  This will help keep unwanted puppy litters out of the shelter.  As an added bonus you may receive a significant discount when registering your dog if he is already spayed or neutered.Reuse Your Dog Toys - We admit that we love to buy those furry new plush toys.  However, we do our best to keep them in use by stitching up the seems over and over again an do our best to keep each toy in use until the very end.

Things we can do to make our pup a more eco-friendly and green puppy:

Use Biodegradable Dog Waste Bags – We’ve long talked about using biodegradable poop bags, but haven’t yet tried them.  We have three dogs and the poop bags can really add up.  We need to do better and start using earth friendly biodegradable poop bags.  There are many options on Amazon.com for biodegradable poop bags.  We’re going to give these Gotta Go Green Biodegradable & Flushable Earth Friendly Dog – Pet Waste – Poop Bags – 50 Bags a shot and we’ll make sure to let you know how it goes.Make Your Own Pet Toys – We have tons of old toys and we do our best to stitch them back together and keep them in use as long as possible.  However, we’ve also long thought about taking some of our old clothes and turning them into doggy toys for the boys.  We’ll add it to our list of things to help our puppies go green!Purchase Eco-Friendly  Supplies – We’re not great label lookers, but moving forward we plan on looking for eco-friendly supplies to clean up puppy messes, organic shampoos, and keep our eyes open for green alternatives whenever purchasing new puppy products.

There you have it!  Six things we currently do to raise a green puppy and three things we plan on doing in the future to become better green puppy raisers.

What about you?  Are you raising a green puppy?  What eco-friendly things do you do to reduce your puppies impact on the environment?  Let us know in the comments section below.

My Dog Was Attacked By Another Dog

Just the other day my dog was attacked by another dog and I really had no idea what to do during the situation or in the aftermath.  It was a scary experience for both me and my black Labrador Retriever, Stetson who unfortunately did not escape the scene unscathed.  At first glance I didn’t notice the gash on Stetson tail, but after further inspection when we got home he was bleeding from one inch dog bite to the tail.

The day my dog was attacked by another dog was the same as any other day.  I was getting Stetson one last walk before I had to head out to my hockey game.  The sun just started setting…many a photographer would call this the golden hour…a perfect time to snap that perfect photo.  Unfortunately, things would be less than perfect for Stetson and I.

As we were heading back to the house we heard a scream: “Get back here!”  A few  seconds later a large long haired German Shepherd came speeding around the corner headed full speed towards Stetson and I.  At this point we couldn’t tell if the dog was ready to attack or play. Stetson thought he was in store for the latter, but unfortunately he was wrong.  The Shepherd wasn’t barking, just charging at full speed.

I positioned myself between Stetson and the German Shepherd hoping to keep the attacking dog from biting or hurting Stetson.  I could hear, but not see the owner (I didn’t take my eye off the Shepherd) telling me to be still because her dog would not bite if we didn’t run.    Stetson held ground directly behind me still thinking he was in for play time.  The Shepherd tried several times to nip at Stetson however, I was able to maneuver my body between the two combatants.  After a few seconds of jousting Stetson realized he might be in peril and decided that between fight and flight he would rather run away from the aggressive dog.

Eventually the owner caught up to her dog and Stetson started running home which is odd for him because he only runs during his sniffer dog training class and when there is food involved.  I never got a glimpse of the owner and hastily got Stetson back to the house.  Once we were back home I inspected Stetson head to tail and found slobber all over his butt and also came across one inch bleeding gash on his tail.  I rushed back outside to try and find the attacking dogs owner, but they had left the scene.  I rushed back home to Stetson who was hiding in the corner.  I cleaned up his wound and rushed him to the emergency veterinarian.

Our vet said we had two options.  First, we could leave things alone and put Stetson on antibiotics and the wound would most likely heal up on it’s own or we could shave down his tail and stitch it up.  However, she said stitching up the tail could cause more problems as the stitches often times break free because the skin on the tail is so tight and she recommended antibiotics and letting his tail heal on it’s own.

Labrador Retriever with Cone

So that was it.  We went ahead and put Stetson on antibiotics and let him sport the cone for a week.  Poor Stetson has to wear a cone on his head for a few days so he doesn’t chew on the dog bite inflicted on his tail :(

Unfortunately, I didn’t recognize the attacking dog and never really got a look at the owners face as I was trying to defend myself and Stetson, then we quickly fled the scene.  We asked our neighborhood friends if they knew the dog who bit Stetson, but unfortunately, we haven’t found the culprit.

Now that the whole dog attack fiasco is over in hindsight there are probably several things I could have done differently to avoid Stetson’s dog bite to the tail.

Bring something to keep a dog from attacking me or my dog – I ordered this Animal Deterrent Spray (aff link) in case we encounter another off leash, aggressive dog.  I’ll post a review about the product when it arrives in the mail.  Until then I’m going to carry around my Large Maglite (aff link) just in case.Be more aware of my surroundings – After hearing the owner screaming we had probably about 5 seconds before the German Shepherd rounded the corner.  That may have been enough time to get safely out of sight.  Next time we’ll be more aware and move quicker if something bad is about to unfold.Get the attacking dog owner’s information before leaving the scene – I didn’t think Stetson was bitten and didn’t know until we got home, but I should have been more on top of things and gotten the dog owner’s information before leaving the scene.  It would have been nice to know if the attacking dog was up to date on vaccinations including rabies.  Unfortunately it appears that we’ll never get that information.Report the incident to animal control – We didn’t initially report the incident to animal control because we couldn’t find the attacking dog owner, but after consulting others we think it’s prudent to let animal control know about the incident regardless.

Here are a few things that I think I did right considering the situation:

I remained calm – I think this is part of the reason Stetson was so calm until he got bitten.I was able to block the attacking dog from getting to Stetson for the most part – Stetson didn’t help much because he thought it was play time I probably kept the Shepherd from biting him about 5 time before Stetson decided to try and avoid the other dog.Don’t Run – we learned a long time ago that dogs like to chase.  Stetson, Linus, Dublin, and I call it the chasing game.  If I chase the boys they run away from me.  If I run away from the boys they chase me.I tried giving commands to the dog – I tried “Sit”, “Down”, and “No”, but none worked.  I guess if the dog wasn’t going to listen to the owner then why listen to me…it was worth a shot…

So that’s our story.  Stetson got bitten by another dog, he was physically scarred, but more worrisome for me was his emotional scars.  Since then we’ve introduced him to several new dogs without any incident.  I guess he won’t hold a grudge on other dogs even after getting attacked.

Part of the reason why I’m putting this post together is to not only inform you, but to find out what you would of done if your dog was attacked by another dog?  Please let us know in the comment section below.

Puppy In Training TV – Ep10 – Puppy Training In The Snow And Bass Pro Shop

Shortly after one of the last snow storms of the season Dublin and I headed out to the local mountains to work on puppy training in the snow and to check out the Bass Pro Shop.

Dublin is my third Guide Dog Puppy In Training, but the first to have the opportunity to visit the snow.  In the past we either never thought about visiting the snow or just did not have the time to make the drive up into the mountains.  However, puppy training in the snow is important for a guide dog puppy as you never know if your pup will be working in cold climates where it’s icy and snowy most of the winter or milder weather like we have here in Orange County, California.

Today’s episode of Puppy In Training TV covers our visit to the Bass Pro Shop, a very dog friendly store for people who love the outdoors.  In the same day we also visited our local mountains so Dublin could get used to walking around in the snow.

So without further adieu.  Lets get started with this weeks episode of Puppy In Training TV!

As usual here’s this weeks transcription of Puppy In Training TV:

Hey Everyone, I’m Colby, this is Dublin.  We’re about to head off to the snow today to visit the Bass Pro Shop and also to let Dublin see the snow for the first time. Welcome to the latest edition of Puppy In Training TV.

Guide Dog Puppy Training Starring DUBLIN
With Linus Aussie Shepherd Rescue
Also Colby The Human
And Stetson Career Changed Guide Dog

We took a little drive to the mountains over the weekend and made a stop at the Bass Pro Shop to work on Dublin’s puppy training.

If you haven’t been to the Bass Pro Shop, it’s a giant store for people who love the outdoors and they’re very dog friendly.  We got to check out the giant catfish in the aqurium and a little girl came up to pet Dublin.  Dublin has had difficulty with meeting new people, but did an excellent job today staying calm while the little girl patted his head.

We got to work on getting in and out of a glass elevator which is a different experience then a regular elevator.

We also had a chance to work on walking up and down the wood stairs.

Dublin worked on his sit stay while we checked out the view from the second floor.

We walked across the bridge then Dublin checked out the fish in the little pond.

After checking out pretty much everything in the store we posed outside the store for a picture.

We also had the opportunity to let Dublin see the snow for the first time.

The cold ground didn’t seem to bother Dublin’s paws. Although he went a little crazy when he first touched the fresh powder, but quickly resumed his heel position. It reminded me of our train ride to San Clemente and Dublin’s first walk along the sand. I guess the texture changes get him a bit excited.

Dublin got to check out the little stream and some beautiful scenery.

During our hike we caught some snowboarders coming down the hill. I let Dublin sit back and watch while they slid down the mountain.

Finally at the end of the day we posed for a group shot. We had a great day at the bass pro shop and romping through the snow. Dublin’s first snow experience was great fun and he got used to behaving even with the lure of fresh powder. Thanks for joining us for this episode of Puppy In Training TV …we’ll see you next time!

Going in and out of any public store is great experience for Dublin.  It gives him a chance to work on being calm in front of different people and environments.  The Bass Pro Shop was a great place to visit with Dublin.  As you saw in Dublin’s puppy training video he had the opportunity to ride up and down a glass elevator, see giant catfish in an aquarium, and he was exposed to many other different sights and smells.  He did a great job on the day and even surprised me by not being mouthy with the little girl that came up to pet him.

Dublin had no problems walking through the snow.  Our first guide dog puppy, Stetson had sensitive paws and would always do the puppy dance anytime we walked on the black top even if it was only a mild 70 degrees outside.  Lucky for us Dublin’s paws are more resistant to the elements and he does awesome walking on hot and cold surfaces.  However, as you can see in the video he seems to get a bit excited when the texture changes under his feet.  He jumped around when he first stepped into fresh powder and did the same thing on our Puppy Training trip to San Clemente in episode 7.  We will probably not have the opportunity to work in the snow again with Dublin, but we will most likely make another trip to the beach to see how he reacts to the sand.

Overall, it was a great day in Wrightwood.  Dublin did really well and he’s improving with each passing day.  As we’ve mentioned in the past one of his weak areas is meet and greets with new people, but today he did wonderful and remained calm when meeting people as seen in this weeks puppy training video.  Good job Dublin!

We recently went to our very own America’s Family Pet Expo right here in our backyard at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA.  As we’ve mentioned in the past it’s one of our favorite events of the year if you’re a pet lover.  Dublin and I worked the Guide Dogs of America booth nearly the entire day this past Sunday.  If you didn’t see us you’ll most likely have a chance to see us again at next years OC Pet Expo.

Coming up on May 7th is the Phoenix Pet Expo and if you’re a pet lover I highly recommend you do your best to attend this indoor event.  By the way, in case you were wondering why we out here in Southern California are advertising an event out in the Arizona Desert, it’s because after reviewing last years analytics data we noticed that we had nearly 6,000 visitors from Arizona visit our site!  We therefore thought why not promote one of our favorite events of the year: the Phoenix Pet Expo.

Here are some things you can expect to see at the Phoenix Pet Expo 2011:

Over 250 pet exhibitorsSplash Dogs – I bet splash dogs is a ton of fun in the Arizona heat.  By the way, did I mention I actually went to school in Tucson, AZ?Canine Musical FreestyleFlyballMega-Adoption with over 500 adoptable pets!

We love watching the Splash Dogs and some of our Guide Dog Puppy Raiser friends participate as splash dogs.  Unfortunately, my two dogs, Stetson and Linus are not big fans of the water and Dublin is still a puppy in training and he is not allowed to compete in such events.

Our OC Pet Expo usually has tons of different pet and dog products for purchase at incredible discounts.  I actually learned this past weekend that you can get better deals at the pet expo then you can online.  Make sure you bring lots of cash because many of the exhibitors do not accept credit cards.

Are you planning on attending the Phoenix Pet Expo?  If you’ve attended in the past or plan on going on May 7th we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.

Several of The Finest Features of an Invisible Dog Fence System

You are here: Home / Puppy Grooming / Several of The Finest Features of an Invisible Dog Fence System

{articletitle}

Pet containment systems have gotten a large amount of popularity these days, and many people often hear about these items and what they can offer your pet. Are these products safe for our much loved animals, and if they are, what can they offer you? These are a couple of the hottest questions regarding these systems. They may be extremely sophisticated items in terms of functions, however the fundamental principles stay the same with most invisible puppy fences. They’re getting better on a daily basis just like many electronic products nowadays, and it can be hard to keep up with them.

One of the best things that these systems offer you is affordability. Sure, a good one costs a few hundred dollars, but compare that to thousands of dollars for a regular fence. Another great thing is that there’s not a lot to do to maintain them. A standard wood fence should be painted yearly, and believe me that isn’t enjoyable at all. Less upkeep as well as affordability are very significant reasons to give them an honest chance.

Used correctly, they do a very nice job.. They are very effective. It truly does take some training, but with correct coaching, they really will give you results. Not only do they work, they are safe and humane if utilized as they were designed. I realize there are individuals on both sides of the fence here, but my research as well as first hand experiences have led me to believe that they are truly humane. My pet dogs are loving and faithful, and much of it is due to the fact that they have rules. They trust me. I think that any dog product could be inhumane. It all depends on whose hand the product is in.

I said that it does take time and correct training, however the training is easy and straight forward. It takes only a few moments every day. Practically all of these systems include video lessons and instruction manuals. The video lessons that come with them are great. Innotek®, PetSafe®, and Sportdog®, are some of the most well known products. All 3 are manufactured by Radio Systems Inc.®. All of them offer you great support using an 800 number as long as you have acquired your system via one of their authorized dealers. The manufacturer is willing to assist with any problems you might have.

One particular advantage that is beneficial to many, and not as important to some is that these fences will not obstruct any view from your house. This is extremely good should you be part of a neighborhood community which doesn’t permit altercations such as traditional fences. Also, it is great if you don’t desire the view out of your house blocked.

Electronic dog fence systems are growing quickly in acceptance. One thing that pet owners need to take time to do is to read the instructions and watch the training videos. Following these recommendations greatly add to your results. Used properly, I have witnessed these fences do impressive things. My buddy’s dog will not go past the edge of the pavement, even if strangers along with other dogs walk by. His containment system hasn’t actually been turned on in a long time. Personal proof in my opinion that these items can and will deliver.

Brooklyn’s Finest-Richard Gere

{articletitle}

Brooklyn’s Finest is one of the movies that I could not wait to see and was counting down the days for its release to DVD. You can’t beat the all-star cast including Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Wesley Snipes, Ethan Hawke and Ellen Barkin. Antoine Fuqua, director of Training Day, directed this film so I had fairly high expectations. Michael C. Martin wrote the story. Martin is a newcomer to the movie business since he was originally a worker for the New York Transit Authority and a college student. Martin was involved in a car accident that landed him in the hospital for some time and this allowed him the opportunity to work on his story. I had high hopes for Brooklyn’s Finest since Martin was so new to the whole scene and has an insider’s perspective of the Brooklyn streets.
I assumed Martin would offer us a new angle on what life is like for these three individual officers and the difficult choices they need to make when faced with moral challenges every day. I was also hoping for a little action or perhaps some mystery while they are out fighting crime. Even an Internal Affairs type movie would have sufficed, but the film offered none of the above. The title, Brooklyn’s Finest gives us the impression that somehow these officers are going to stand out above the rest but they don’t seem to overcome any unusual obstacles or make many historical accomplishments in the neighborhood.

Don’t get me wrong, the acting was as good as expected even though I think Richard Gere’s acting was average this time around. Perhaps I feel this way because there has been so much talk out there about how this is his best performance but it couldn’t compare to his roles in Nights In Rodanthe, Unfaithful, Internal Affairs and of course Pretty Woman. I have to admit that I couldn’t complain about seeing him in uniform for two hours. The man looks great. Don Cheadle did a wonderful job as expected in a role that is fairly new to him. I enjoyed seeing Cheadle’s rough side, as he seems to be so nice and reserved in reality. Wesley Snipes, Ethan Hawke and Ellen Arkin were also as good as expected. The actors and the director are really what sold this movie.

The story was all over the place but was easy to follow, maybe a little too easy. They gave us the perspective of each of the officers as well as Snipes character, a big time drug dealer ready to break free of the business. The story itself was a collage of events occurring in each of the characters lives but every time you think that the plot will thicken, you get disappointed. I set my expectations too high on this puppy and made the mistake of assuming that it might be the next Heat.

I was slightly disappointed with Fuqua’s directing. He has enough experience to know what it takes to make a movie like this shine and it seems as if he hardly even tried. I have a feeling that Michael C. Martin is going to get better. There’s still hope for him even though his first film was dull. I’m sure he has made enough money to pick up and start over if he wants to continue his newfound career. You have to start somewhere and the fact that he managed to play a significant role in making a $17 million film with a cast like this is a great start. I would recommend this film to anyone who wants to see Richard Gere in uniform because this is the highlight of the film and the meaning of Brooklyn’s Finest!

How to Create an Information Product – A Beginner Guide

You are here: Home / Puppy Grooming / How to Create an Information Product – A Beginner Guide

{articletitle}

In today information age, there are many people who gain financial success through online business. This is a real business and very lucrative one as well. Many people are actually dreaming to own their own online business. If done right, this business can really provide you time and financial freedom. And the best thing is that you can run and manage this business from the comfort of your home. As long as you have a computer and an internet connection, you are good to go.

There are many ways to succeed online, one best way is by having your own information product. But, what is information product and how do you create one?

You see, if you have your own information product you can keep 100% profit from every sale that you make or you could have affiliates promoting your product and although you are sharing the profit you are also making more sales because you many people are selling the product for you (you are leveraging other people time and effort). So having your own product is a very sound business strategy.

Some examples of information products are: ebook, video based training, step-by-step training guide, membership training site, software application, etc.

Almost every niche market and product can be turned into information products. For instance, in the ‘dog’ niche, you can create information products on the following topics:

- Dog training
- Puppy house training
- Dog agility training
- Dog endurance training
- Dog clicker training
- Dog raw food diets
- Dog treat recipes

In fact, for information product business, the sky is the limit. And the potential earning is HUGE! As you can see above, there are a number of ’sub niches’ within the dog niche and you could create an information product on each of these sub niches. And, this is just one example here, there are a ton of niches you can create information products from. Some good niches to consider are: Health, Fitness, Self Help, Finance, Relationships, Entertainment, Sports, etc. The sky is truly a limit when finding niches for your information based business.

How to create your own information product?

There are many ways to create an information product, but typically the steps will boil down to the following steps:

- Conducting a research to discover the demand/supply of the niche market that you want to enter.

- Get some PLR products that are related to your niche. PLR is Private Label Rights where you can obtain the rights to own and resell the products.

- Remodel the PLR products by using your own words and knowledge about the subject area. You can transform it into your own version of ebook, step-by-step guide, video training or membership info site. It is up to you what format you want to use.

- Create a website and market your information product.

Build a customer list

This is very important because a good customer list can give you repeat sales. You can follow up with your customers and promote other products that are related to your niches. Your customer list is perhaps the most important business asset. So, make sure you build it and keep it well.

I have explained and outlined the potential of an information product business in this article, hope you find it useful.

Having Dog Barking Problem?

{articletitle}

There are variety reasons why dogs bark. Boredom, loneliness, dominance, or attention seeking are key reasons dogs bark. They might also bark to communicate a message, or simply to express their feelings of excitement. Sometimes a dog barks to warn their masters about impending danger, or what they might perceive as danger. Most dogs will also bark to warn off potential threats, as a precursor to physically attacking the threat. This can be seen in dogs that are pitted against each other, whether by force or by circumstance.

Past a certain point, dog barking can be a nuisance to neighbors, and is a common problem dog owners or their neighbors may face. Different kinds of barking often require different kinds of approach to reduction. There are several ways in which to control dogs from barking. One is through strict establishment of your relationship with your dog. A dog is much more likely to respect its owner if it knows you are a leader not him. If you can establish this through strict “nos” and other behavioral signs of dominance, you will find it easier to control your dog.

There are bark collars that can control an excessively dog barking. The collar is designed to deliver a small electrostatic shock whenever your dog barks.

Lastly, there is the controversial procedure of surgical to stop barking that commonly known as ‘debarking’. Debarking is a veterinary procedure for modifying the voice box so that a barking dog will make a significantly reduced noise. This is usually a last resort for pet owners who would otherwise abandon their dogs or euthanize them, though most surgical veterinarians do not regard the practice as cruel.
