In the third of our popular dog behavioral problems series we have provided a complete guide on how to cure puppy crate training whining. This very common problem is often associated when a puppy has started to associate negative experiences with the Crate. Learn how to avoid this problem ever developing.
It is very important that you never ever use the crate as a punishment as this instantly reinforce his sleeping area as something to fear and you are on to a loser straight away.
If your puppy just hates his sleeping area as you have used it as a punishment tool then you should purchase a new one and start over.
Start by getting your puppy used to his crate by placing toys in there and things that smell of you as this will relax him and make him feel more at home.
Feed your puppy in his crate and get him used to eating in it and being in there.
Never ever let your puppy out of his crate if he is whining as this will just reinforce that whining will get him what he wants. Wait until he is quiet and then let him out.
Get your puppy really tired before he gets in his crate before he sleeps as this will make him really tired and less likely to whine.
Place a blanket over the crate so he can't see you as this will make him cosey and less likely to whine.
As soon as he wakes take him out for a walk and give him some play-time.
Congratulations, follow these instructions and you will cure one of the most common dog behavioral problems.
